This year, pledge to be good to yourself. You are taking on a world that is often not looking out for your long term health and happiness, and it can swallow us up if we don’t take the time to care for ourselves.
So grab a book, find a pool, take some deep breaths and relax.
As much as we need compassion for others at this moment, we also need to practice compassion for ourselves, accepting our imperfections, mistakes and failures along the way. Karen Neff (a mother of a boy with autism) illustrates how important this principle is in her book titled “Self-Compassion.” The book is a great reminder that we all need to be good to ourselves in the process of life in order to continue living well.
